The Xepian is a tributary of the Sekong River, which itself is a tributary of the Mekong River. It flows from the Bolaven Plateau and merges with the Sekong River in Attapeu Province. At the time, there was no bridge, and a ferry with a platform made of boards placed between two small boats was used to carry motorcycles across the river. It seems this made some pocket money for the children. As the river is shallow, as long as it was not in the middle of the rainy season, most people used to wade across, some of them carrying dogs or bicycles. No one would have thought that in 2018, 10 years later, the bursting of the auxiliary dam of Xepian-Xenamnoy Dam, which had been built upstream, would completely destroy this area.
