The sorn is a kind of fishing gear used to scoop up fish that run upstream in the Mekong River in the dry season. In February 2008, a branch of the Mekong River in Siphandone, called the Hoo Sahong, had a kind of pier that went out into the middle of the river for using the sorn. During this period, the water of the Mekong River is very clear, and it is possible to see fish swimming in the water. Small fish called paatep and paasoi were being caught. As well as being eaten as they are, the fish were also being sold as dried fish to neighboring areas.
