The landscape and environment have changed dramatically in Attapeu Province due to development projects by Vietnamese companies.
The construction of a large-scale farm for sugarcane production began from around 2011 (1-3), and a sugar factory was also being constructed (4-5). The factory was completed in 2013.
Trees were felled to plant sugarcane (6). The land designated as a plantation included the farmland of some of the residents. I heard that quite a few residents were dissatisfied with the compensation. Some villagers blocked agricultural roads to prevent the company from developing land before an agreement had been reached. Even in a place like this, the children found something to talk happily about (7).
